An accurate
and inexpensive means for detecting lead in soil, the
LeadCheck® Soil Kit includes soil sample bags, collection
scoop, pipets, extraction liquid droppers, plastic spoon, reaction
bottles, reaction trays, and swabs for six tests.
Principle of
The Method To be detected, lead in soil must be solubilized and the
lead isolated from the other complexes in the soil. The extraction liquid
in the kit prepares the soil sample for testing by making the lead
available. Detection of lead in the extraction liquid is based on the
simple reactivity of lead with certain dyes capable of forming
strongly-colored complexes with lead. The pink color that rapidly develops
is specific to lead and is stable for hours.
This test is not
quantitative, and is not intended to replace laboratory analysis. Local
environmental conditions may affect test sensitivity.
How to Use the Test Kits
Collect soil sample.
Prepare soil sample for testing.
Extract lead from soil into the extraction liquid.
Test the extraction liquid for lead content.
Applications
This kit can be used to detect lead in soil
miscellaneous industrial waste, or any other solid materials that are hard
to test.
