Applications
SWYPE ® Indicators and PERMEA-TEC ® Sensors indicate the presence
of aromatic amines (MDA, TDA, MOCA, aniline, o-Toluidine, etc.), aromatic
isocyanates (MDI and TDI), aliphatic isocyanates (HDI, IPDI, etc.),
hydrazine, and acids/bases.

- Specific for particular compound groups
- Sensitive to levels equal to or below PELs for comparable airborne
exposure
- Safe for use on skin and work surfaces
SWYPE Indicators
Easy-to-use colorimetric SWYPE
Indicators detect contaminants on work surfaces and skin. Formulated
to be specific
for compound groups such as amines and isocyanates, SWYPEs are
sensitive to levels equal to or below permissible exposure levels
for a comparable airborne exposure. SWYPEs are easy to use. Simply
spray Developer Solution* * on a surface
and wipe with a SWYPE or wipe skin with a SWYPE and immerse in
the Developer Solution* *.
SWYPEs provide a rapid, positive color change if the contaminant
is present. |

PERMEA-TEC Pads
Gloves are flexed, stretched, pressured, and abraded which can
cause premature chemical breakthrough and alter reliance on
ASTM laboratory breakthrough data. PERMEA-TEC pads, worn under
gloves during actual field use, show the point at which breakthrough
occurs. This information enables the safety professional to
select a glove that will perform optimally in terms of protection,
employee acceptance, and cost effectiveness. PERMEA-TEC pads
are sensitive to 3 to 5 µg for aromatic amines and isocyanates.
Solvent PERMEA-TEC pads also contain a charcoal pad for GC
analysis. |

cleanser. In place of the solution and cleanser, 25 Surface SWYPEs
are included in the kit. Soap and water are sufficient to remove contamination
from acids and bases.
Surface and Skin Decontamination
When SWYPEs and PERMEA-TEC Sensors indicate chemical contamination
on skin, surfaces, tools, clothing, or reusable PPE, use Decontamination
and D-Tam Solutions for safe and effective removal of the contaminants.
These solutions have proven to be more effective than soap and water
at removing water-insoluble contaminants from skin and surfaces.
And, unlike harsh degreasers, D-Tam Solutions do not dry or abrade
skin,
which can worsen exposure by disrupting the natural barrier properties
of the skin.
Decontamination Solutions
Made of biodegradable materials, these solutions can be used to effectively
decontaminate workplace surfaces and minimize concern for hazardous
waste disposal. In-place decontamination of process areas saves time
and money and reduces the risk of dermal and inhalation exposures.

D-Tam Skin Cleanser
Formulated to remove water-insoluble contaminants such as aromatic
amines, pesticides, phenol, epoxy resins, and paints/sealants from
the skin, D-Tam Skin Cleanser will not disrupt or abrade the natural
barrier properties of the skin. D-Tam Skin Cleanser contains no emollients,
such as lanolin or aloe vera, nor does it contain pumice or harsh surfactants.
D-Tam Skin Cleanser will not enhance penetration of contaminants into
the skin.

About Wipe Sampling *
Wipe sampling with
SWYPE Indicators is performed to identify failures in PPE and cleaning/decontamination
programs, not to assess contamination health risks. Therefore, quantitative
measurement is not required. Once a colorimetric wipe pad, such as
SWYPEs, determines the presence of a contaminant, a filter wipe sample
can be taken and sent to a laboratory for confirmation and quantitative
analysis.

About OSHA PPE Standard *
OSHA's
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Standard (29 CFR 1910.132) requires
employers to "assess the workplace to determine if hazards
are present, or are likely to be present, which necessitates the
use of personal protective equipment." A complete worksite analysis
requires assessment of surface contamination because workers may
be exposed to hazards directly through the skin and ingestion, and
indirectly through inhalation of contaminants re-entrained in air.
For this reason, wipe sampling is an important part of analyzing
worksites for hazardous conditions, in evaluating the effectiveness
of PPE, housekeeping, and decontamination programs, and for assessing
compliance with certain OSHA requirements.
