FIRE	Flammable.	NO open flames, NO sparks, and NO smoking. NO contact with strong oxidants.	Powder, alcohol-resistant foam, water spray, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION	Above 44°C explosive vapour/air mixtures may be formed.	Above 44°C use a closed system, ventilation, and explosion-proof electrical equipment.	In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water.

EXPOSURE		AVOID EXPOSURE OF (PREGNANT) WOMEN!	IN ALL CASES CONSULT A DOCTOR!
•INHALATION	Cough. Drowsiness. Headache. Shortness of breath. Sore throat. Weakness.	Ventilation, local exhaust, or breathing protection.	Fresh air, rest. Refer for medical attention.
•SKIN	MAY BE ABSORBED! (Further see Inhalation).	Protective gloves. Protective clothing.	Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse skin with plenty of water or shower. Refer for medical attention.
•EYES	Blurred vision.	Safety goggles or face shield.	First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
•INGESTION	Abdominal pain. Nausea. Vomiting (further see Inhalation).	Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.	Rinse mouth. Induce vomiting (ONLY IN CONSCIOUS PERSONS!). Refer for medical attention.

PACKAGING & LABELLING

Collect leaking and spilled liquid in sealable containers as far as possible. Wash away remainder with plenty of water. Carefully collect remainder (extra personal protection: self-contained breathing apparatus).

Fireproof. Separated from strong oxidants. Keep in the dark.

COLOURLESS VISCOUS LIQUID , WITH CHARACTERISTIC ODOUR.

The substance can form explosive peroxides. The substance decomposes on burning producing toxic gas. Reacts with strong oxidants causing fire and explosion hazard. Attacks many plastics and rubber.

TLV: 5 ppm; 18 mg/m³ (as TWA) (skin) (ACGIH 1992-1993).
MAK: 20 ppm; 75 mg/m³; H,B (1993).
OSHA PEL: TWA 200 ppm (740 mg/m³) skin
NIOSH REL: TWA 0.5 ppm (1.8 mg/m³) skin
NIOSH IDLH: 500 ppm

ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation, through the skin, and by ingestion.

INHALATION RISK:
A harmful contamination of the air can be reached rather quickly on evaporation of this substance at 20°C.

EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance irritates the eyes, the skin, and the respiratory tract. Exposure could cause central nervous system depression and liver and kidney damage. Exposure may result in unconsciousness. Medical observation is indicated.

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
The liquid defats the skin. The substance may have effects on the bone marrow and blood , resulting in anaemia and lesions of blood cells. May cause reproductive toxicity in humans.

Depending on the degree of exposure, periodic medical examination is indicated. The odour warning when the exposure limit value is exceeded is insufficient. Check for peroxides prior to distillation; eliminate if found. Keep in dark because of possible formation of explosive peroxides.
