TYPES OF HAZARD/ EXPOSURE	ACUTE HAZARDS/ SYMPTOMS	PREVENTION	FIRST AID/ FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE	Combustible. Many reactions may cause fire or explosion. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire.	NO open flames.	Powder, water spray, foam, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION	Finely dispersed particles form explosive mixtures in air.	Prevent deposition of dust; closed system, dust explosion-proof electrical equipment and lighting.	In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water.

EXPOSURE		PREVENT DISPERSION OF DUST! STRICT HYGIENE!
•INHALATION	Blue lips or finger nails. Blue skin. Dizziness. Headache. Nausea. Shortness of breath.	Local exhaust or breathing protection.	Fresh air, rest. Refer for medical attention.
•SKIN	MAY BE ABSORBED! Redness. (Further see Inhalation).	Protective gloves. Protective clothing.	Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse and then wash skin with water and soap. Refer for medical attention.
•EYES	Redness. Pain.	Safety goggles, or eye protection in combination with breathing protection.	First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
•INGESTION	(Further see Inhalation).	Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.	Rinse mouth. Give a slurry of activated charcoal in water to drink. Induce vomiting (ONLY IN CONSCIOUS PERSONS!). Refer for medical attention.

Sweep spilled substance into sealable containers. Carefully collect remainder, then remove to safe place. (Extra personal protection: complete protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus).

Separated from food and feedstuffs, and reducing materials.

Do not transport with food and feedstuffs.

PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
YELLOW TO GREEN CRYSTALS , WITH CHARACTERISTIC ODOUR.

PHYSICAL DANGERS:
Dust explosion possible if in powder or granular form, mixed with air.

CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance decomposes on heating or on burning producing toxic and corrosive fumes (nitrogen oxides, chlorine - see ICSC 0126, hydrogen chloride, phosgene - see ICSC 0007). Reacts violently with reducing materials, causing fire and explosion hazard.

ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation and through the skin.

INHALATION RISK:
A harmful contamination of the air can be reached very quickly on evaporation of this substance at 20°C.

EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance irritates the eyes, the skin and the respiratory tract. The substance may cause effects on the blood , resulting in formation of methaemoglobin, cyanosis, brain damage and kidney failure (see Notes).

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
The substance may have effects on the blood: methemoglobinemia (see short-term exposure), liver, kidney and spleen.

TLV (as para-nitrochlorobenzene): 0.1 ppm; O.6 mg/m³ (skin) (ACGIH 1991-1992). Explosive limits are unknown in literature. Depending on the degree of exposure, periodic medical examination is indicated. Specific treatment is necessary in case of poisoning with this substance; the appropriate means with instructions must be available.
